Development Assistant (DKU Empower) Duke Kunshan University Job Description Position Overview: The Development and Alumni Relations Office at Duke Kunshan University (DKU) is a team with joint accountability for fundraising, business development and alumni engagement to find resources and establish networks to support the long-term success of the institution. The Development Assistant will play a hybrid role that combines administrative support for the team and active involvement in DKU Empower, including program coordination and communications. Funded by a perpetual endowment, DKU Empower is a university-wide initiative that aims to embed social responsibility deeply into DKU’s education, research, and campus life. Led by DKU Foundation, DKU Empower aims to offer resources and platforms that enable the entire DKU community to practice knowledge in the service of society, grow as changemakers, and create lasting social impact. The Development Assistant will support the planning, execution and evaluation of DKU Empower, and contribute to documenting and communicating the program’s impact through structured reporting and storytelling. On top of DKU Empower, this person will also provide support to advance other work of the Development and Alumni Relations team. For the Development Assistant to succeed in this role, s/he will need to actively engage a number of stakeholders, including campus partners, faculty and student participants of the programs, external partners, etc. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and service-minded, while being able to synthesize information, communicate effectively, and develop written materials with clarity and empathy. Reports to: Senior Communications Officer, with a dotted line to Senior Director of Development & Alumni Relations Essential Duties: DKU Empower 1 Coordinate with on-campus and external partners to support the design, planning, funding application, and implementation of programs; accompany trips as needed. 2 Support communication with stakeholders by tracking progress, identifying key issues, and helping facilitate solutions when needed. 3 Conduct post-program evaluations to reflect the impact of the program accurately and comprehensively. 4 Draft and support the development of program reports, impact stories, and communication materials, including conducting interviews and organizing content. Administrative & Operational Support 1 Provide administrative support to the team, including meeting coordination, travel arrangements, and visitor logistics. 2 Support tracking of donor engagement and project updates and maintain accurate records in the database (Salesforce). 3 Support the planning and execution of major events (e.g., Empower Festival, Thanksgiving Dinner, Advisory Board Meeting), including coordination and content preparation. 4 Perform other duties as assigned. 5 University employees’ job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs. Required Qualifications: 1 Bachelor’s degree minimum. 2 Preferably with one-two years of professional experiences. 3 Strong organizational and administrative skills, ability to synthesize information with attention to detail. 4 Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin, with the ability to develop clear and structured written materials. 5 Ability to engage with students, campus partners and external partners in a thoughtful and professional manner. 6 Responsible, proactive, and willing to take ownership while handling both routine and non-routine tasks. 7 Willingness to travel and work some evenings and weekends.
